Tirumala Brahmotsavam Surya Prabha Vahanam -2015

 

Tirumala, 22 September 2015:  The procession of Lord Sri Venkateswara on the seventh day of Srivari Salakatla Brahmotsavam atop the Suryaprabha Vahanam was an enthralling experience to all the devotees. Malayappa rides atop a vehicle adorned by Surya, the sun god, who was the key architect of life of humans, animals and plants.

Among all the vehicle processions, Surya Prabha vahanam has got a unique place as the sun-god controls the affairs of the entire universe and he represents the three Vedas- Rig, Yajur and Sama and therefore he is known as Trayimaya, the form of Lord Narayana. He is also called Surya-Narayana.

 

All devout offer prayers to Sun god every morning and the chanting of Gayatri Mantram triggers a divine energy among all. Surya rides the chariot driven by seven celestial horses. He spread light and health in the world and also removed away darkness which symbolized poverty, illiteracy and ignorance.

 

Puranas describe the chariot of Sun God in this way with the carriage size is estimated to be 3,600,000 yojanas [28,800,000 miles] long and width ranging about 900,000 yojanas, or 7,200,000 miles.  The sun-god traverses a distance of 95,100,000 yojanas [760,800,000 miles] at the speed of 2,000 yojanas and two krosas [16,004 miles] in a moment.

 

It is common belief the darshan of Surya Prabha Vahanam provided long life to all devotees and also relieved of all illness.
