Kal Bhairav Temple Varanasi History

As per the Legend, Once Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu had an argument over the supreme among themselves. Lord Vishnu and Brahma approached 4 Vedas to find out the Supreme power. The four Vedas unanimously declared Lord Siva as the Supreme power. Lord Vishnu and Brahma were not convinced with the reply. Angered Brahma started staring at Lord Siva. Lord Siva angered with Brahma’s act created Kal Bhairav and ordered him to remove the 5th head of Lord Brahma.

Lord Siva ordered Kal Bhairav to get rid of Sin of removing Brahma’s 5th head. Kal Bhairav visited many temples before reaching Kashi. On reaching Kashi, he got relieved from the Sin and the 5th head of Brahma fell on the ground. The place where the head fell down is called Kapal Mochan Tirtha. Kal Bhairav stayed in Kashi from them on.
